Challenge your students to problem solve in spades with this unique STEM unit! Students will design and test a MECHANICAL robotic arm, using common and inexpensive household materials. They will learn about basic scientific concepts used in mechanical engineering, biotechnology, robotics and other sciences. In addition, they will explore how engineers design and create working artificial limbs to help millions of people who need them.
At the same time, students will also learn much about patience, determination and persistence with this project. As their teacher, consider conducting a Classroom Challenge event for the students to see whose completed robot arm can actually pick up a plastic cup or other similar object. Combine scientific and creative learning with FUN!
